I painted Blue Jug in the Kitchen as a reflection on kitchens many of us remember — not a specific place, but a familiar kind of space. Today we are used to large kitchens with plenty of bench space, but that wasn’t always the case. I think of my mum with her five children, in a small, practical kitchen, making do and getting on with it.
